Donkey Cart AmbulanceAMURT and AMURTEL have trained thirty-six midwives in the remote villages of Burkina Faso. The midwives provide prenatal consultations and safe births, and educate women on issues such as sexually transmitted diseases, family planning and the fight against female genital mutilation. Many of the midwives are becoming leaders in their community, providing a source of hope to their peers in an otherwise male-dominated society. The gift of a donkey cart will help a midwife transport women with birth complications to the nearest government clinic, potentially saving lives.
